As soon as you write your book, you automatically own your copyright. You do not have to do anything further to obtain copyright. When you publish, you'll include a copyright page (usually, this is found on the reverse of your full title page). On that page, you'll include something like this:
Copyright (c) 2022 First name Last name
That's your copyright!
However, there are cases where you'll want to go a bit further. You can register your copyright. Please note: I am not a copyright lawyer and cannot provide you legal advice in this (or any!) area.

Tutorials on registering copyright are available from the U.S. Copyright Office at copyright.gov. Note: registering your copyright for a single author book is generally $45.00.
Practices in Canada, the UK, the European Union, New Zealand, Australia differ. The links below may help authors in those countries/areas begin to look are copyright process there.
